Tommy grew up in Tallahassee, FL and Rebekah in nearby Monticello, FL. When they decided to open up a coffee shop they wanted to settle down close to home (but not too close). After much prayer they felt that God was leading them to Bainbridge so after completing school (Tommy as a student at Jacksonville University, and Rebekah as a teacher at Ed White High) they packed up and moved.
While in Tallahassee, Tommy worked five years for Elini’s Coffee & Tea where he learned how to be a skilled barista. More than just learning the difference between Arabica and Robusta and how to make the perfect latte, Tommy grew to love the atmosphere and loved connecting with the customers. Officially Rebekah didn’t work at the coffee shop but while they were dating she spent much of her time there hanging out with other customers and waiting for Tommy’s shift to be over.
As Tommy’s school career was coming to an end both Tommy and Rebekah felt that God was opening up the doors for something other than the corporate world. Since both have fond memories of Elini’s and share a love of traveling, they decided to combine these interests into one shop.
Our motto “Changing the world one cup at a time,” reflects our interest in making the world a better place. In the store we are trying to help make a difference in the world by providing things such as fair trade and local products. We hope to make a difference in your world by offering a friendly, relaxing atmosphere. Our wish is that Bean Around the World will provide an international vacation for you and be a place to unwind during your day. |
