Changing the world one cup at a time.

Coffee 101

Text Box: Saplings are first grown in a nursery and then transplanted to the mountain sides where the mature plants reside.
In 1-3 years the trees begin to flower and bear the cherry like fruit. This cherry is picked by hand (for Arabica coffee) or machine (for most Robusta coffee).
After the cherry pits have been removed, the pits are washed, dried, sorted, and graded. The beans are then transported from the country of origin to the consuming country.
At this point they must be roasted before they are brewed.
From Green Beans to Your Cup

· We currently offer single-origin and blends of coffee from Colombia, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and others in-between.

· At Bean Around the World we roast our own coffee which allows us to create exclusive blends and flavored coffee profiles.

· If you want something really different and unique we will roast and/or flavor a batch of coffee just for you, creating your perfect cup (a five pound minimum purchase is required).

· Arabica coffee is grown at higher altitudes making it necessary to pick the cherries by hand.  These beans are lower in caffeine content and generally a much higher quality.

· Robusta coffees are grown in the valleys and most often picked and processed by machines.  The flavor profile is different and generally not as desired due to the low altitude and mixture in the maturity of the cherries.

Text Box: Roasting Process

First the roaster is preheated to 450°. The green coffee is than dropped into the drum and the beans are then roasted until the first crack. This is the stage when the chemical makeup is changing. After the first crack, the drum burners are turned off and the coffee is cooked the remainder of the time with conductive heat. Darker roasts continue in roaster until the second crack. Total roast times can vary depending on beans and degree of roast. Esresso and Frech Roast require the longest time in the roaster. French Roast remains in the drum unitl the oil begins to seep from the tip of the beans. The beans in an espresso roast are completely coated in oil. These batches take about 19 minuets, however, a light to medium roast may take anywhere between 14-17 minuets.
